Buchenwald is located about five miles west of Wiemar in the northern slopes of the Ettersberg. Political prisoners and Jews were held there. 56,000 people died in Buchenwald (even though prisoners estimated that 51,000 people died). At Buchenwald they experimented on the people and shot them if they didn't die of sickness or malnutrition first. It lasted through 1937-1945 and was liberated by the united states army.
